NON DESTRUCTIVE
TESTING OF CONCRETE STRUCTURES
Rebound
Hammer Testing :
This is one of the most primitive
and simplest test to evaluate strength
of concrete. Although results using
this test vary significantly based
on surface, carbonation and variety
of other factors, some consultants
/ clients prefer to use it primarily
due to its speed and ease of use.
Geo
Dynamics offers this test using a
rebound hammer for use on project
sites. The test is based on the principle
that the rebound of an elastic mass
depends upon the hardness of the surface
it strikes. The results are expressed
in terms of rebound number and then
converted to concrete strength.
Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Testing
:
This is also a very simple
Non Destructive Test used to evaluate
quality of concrete and cracks or
defect if any. Note that it is difficult
to establish grade of concrete using
UPV, unless a calibration is established
on site using concrete cubes or cores.
The method consists of transmitting
a wave of fixed frequency through
an emitter and a receiver at the other
end of the section is used to record
the wave. Knowing the travel time
displayed on the equipment the UPV
value can be calculated. Further interpretation
can be based on the basis of series
of such results on the structure.
We
are equipped with an Ultrasonix 4600
Equipment that conforms to BS: 4408
and ASTM C:597 and also IS:13311 Part
(1)-1992. We have already used it
on many flyovers, bridges and buildings
to ascertain concrete quality to the
satisfaction of our clients and consultants.
