Geo Dynamics has been again at the forefront of popularizing the concept of Bi Directional Static Load Testing in India and the technology is available in house since 2018. We can claim to offer these services at par with the best worldwide. Our landmark achievements including testing a single monopole of 3.5m diameter to 16300T of load. Our other achievement include testing of long friction piles, offshore concrete bored piles and for diameter ranging from 600mm to 3.5m.

A typical bi-directional static load test (BDSLT) consists of jacks embedded inside the pile at a location such that the computed friction above the jack is equal to the friction plus end bearing or only end bearing below the jack assembly. Load is applied by hydraulically pressurizing one or more Bi Directional Jacks, affixed between upper and lower bearing plates.

Geo Dynamics has developed in-house capabilities to manufacture the jacks ranging from 100 ton capacity to 1500 ton capacity as per project requirements. Higher capacity jacks are customized and available based on project specifications. In addition to jacks, the pile is also instrumented at various layers of soil change by using vibrating wire strain transducers procured from some of the leading manufacturers worldwide. Tell tales, crack meters and some other specialty instrumentation supplement the jack assembly and the entire cage is lowered as one unit with all the jacks and instrumentation installed inside the cage. Jack calibrations are available for witness and our customers often visit our facility to witness the jack calibrations and office facility before approval of the test.

Geo Dynamics now has a significant database of unit friction and end bearing in a variety of soils and rock and that aids in jack positioning decision before the actual test. Our speed of execution ensures that load tests are completed in significantly lower time compared to static load tests and below the costs of static load testing. Some of the output from the test can be listed as below

Benifits of BDSTL:

  • BDSLT eliminates kentledge, reaction piles rock anchors etc to generate reaction.

  • The method is quick compare to the arrangements required for static load testing. Provides information on soil resistance in all kinds of stratum and also evaluates end bearing. Estimates magnitude of the mobilized shaft and toe resistances.

  • Optimization of length possible based on the findings of BDSLT

  • The test can practically be conducted upto unlimited capacity and length.

Codal Provisions:

  • The test is conducted and complies with various codes and specifications worldwide, some of them listed as below:

    • ASTM D8169/8169M – Standard Test Methods for deep foundations under Bi-Directional Static Axial Compressive Load.

    • Appendix of IRC: 78-2014

    • BS EN 22477
